It is reported that the couple had previous problems in their marriage, Renee had filed for divorce in 2005 but withdrew her petition. Shon Pernice, a firefighter, was a veteran from the Iraqi war and was getting ready to deploy once again to Iraq. He immediately hired a lawyer and has not been charged or named as a person of interest in Renee's disappearance.
The area that she would frequent has been the target of searches using ground personnel, canine and horses. So far nothing has been found, but all signals are pointing to foul play being involved.
Pernice's mother, Linda Lockwood, spoke to FOX 4 News and said she fears the worst. Through tears, she said, "It's been too long for her to not have contacted any of us, so we feel like something bad has happened. She would never, never, never leave her kids and just not say anything to anybody. There's no way."Renee is a teaching nurse at a local hospital and by all accounts it is totally out of character for her to leave her home, leave her children, and walk away from her life. She is close to her family members and keeps in close contact with them, so for her not to call after this long is quite suspicious.
What do we have going on here? Without pointing fingers, could it be another military man gone mad? There seems to be a correlation lately with serving in the military and murdering spouses. What should be done to help our returning vets assimilate back into their lives, their homes and their marriages so that more children are left without a mother?
Or do we have another possible "Drew Peterson" statement that she ran away to be with another man?
Baldwin(Shon Pernice's lawyer) said Pernice feels helpless.
“He misses her; he wants her back even if she chooses not to be with him; she needs to be there for the kids,” he said.
What we do know from all reports is that Renee Pernice most likely did not just walk out of her home last Friday. She had way too much going on in her life with a successful career and 3 young children who friends say were her life.
As the days go on, the chances of finding Renee alive are very slim, her family and friends are aware of that. What about 3 young children without a mother? Who should be held accountable for their loss?
If indeed this is another case of spousal murder, we have another abuser who has followed the pattern.
This is such an unfortunate event. I live in the neighborhood where the Pernice's do and I can tell you that this has been very upsetting for so many reasons. To think about this poor woman and what her husband might have done to her while we all slept only doors away is very unsettling. We don't live in an upscale neighborhood but it is certainly not in a bad part of town. We take our kids for walks around the block, our dogs too and to the park where they searched for her. The sheer amount of weapons that they removed from this man's home is ridiculous. Well over 20 rifles, shotguns and pistols! Everyone here is praying, and keeping their fingers crossed and eyes peeled. Come home Renee if you can! Your children need you!
ReplyDeleteTo the family of Renee...I am a mother of 1 and one on the way and also a nurse, I fear for the news the family may receive in the comming weeks, I just want to let Renee's family know that I am praying that she is okay, and that her children don't have to live a life without her.
ReplyDeleteFrom local news reports on 1/16, taken from police documents concerning surveillance of the husband and the search of their home, it is apparent that Renee is a murder victim and her husband was the perpetrator. Ms. Pernice's parents are members of my church, and though I don't know them this is so sad! Why can't people just go through a divorce process instead of resorting to violence? (Police found divorce papers and photos of Shon Pernice with another woman at the home.) There is no reason to take the life of another. Also, Shon Pernice has refused to allow the maternal grandparents to have contact their grandchildren. The thought of those young children living with a murderer, and who knows what he is telling them about their mother that might psychologically tramautize them, just makes me sick. I am praying for Renee, her children and her family. Sally - Overland Park, KS

what i want to know is what does the amount of guns a person have to do with anything/i hope they find her safe.. theres just so much of this type of thing going on anymore its scary. i got a security screen door a steel door with 2 locks and i still feel jumpy sometimes.JUST BECAUSE SOMEone LIKES GUNS DOESNT MEAN THERE GUILTY OF ANYTHING !!!
IN MY VIEW ANYONE THAT DOESNT HAVE 2 OR 3 FOR PROTECTION OF THEMSELVES AND THERE FAMILY IS SPORTING DEATH... THERES JUST TO MANY CRAZY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD ANYMORE TO BE WITHOUT A GUN
if you can only afford one make it a 12 gauge shotgun with a 18 1/2 inch barrel and a hundred rounds of number one buckshot and one hundred slugs this is what is reccommended by gun experts as the MINIMUM for home self defense
hope renee comes home soon !!!!!
all my best wishes
i just got this book from mid continent library that very sadly lays this whole thing out like a textbook. in fact it seems to predict the outcome before anything even got started. the book is called "erased" by marilee strong. she has documented almost everything that has happpened before it happened here. it's weirdly uncanny and very sad.
ReplyDeletei forgot to add that having guns will not help you while your locked in your fortress because the person you're scared of is the same one that you would never suspect. the key in the book about missing women is that the person who committed the crime think that they can manipulate others to do what they want. that they are much smarter than the police and that to them this will all blow over. they also have an almost fanatical belief that if there is no body, than they can't be prosecuted. shon has probably had been planning this for quite some time. very similar to the peterson case. also him letting her dog loose in the park is a very telling trait among these kind of guys. if you look at shon's life i bet you will find many discrepencies in what he told others about himself and what is really true.
ReplyDeletelink to book.

Beermo, thank you for commenting! I have read Marilee's book, Erased, and it's a fantastic look at the psychology of these men.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately it's getting easier to spot the signs.
If you read a lot of the missing mother stories that I've featured here, you will see a lot of the same patterns.
This is very unsettling but these stories are happening more and more. The type of neighborhood nor the caliber of the family has nothing to do with it. Many people are becoming caught up and I agree more need to be done for the military personnel returning from war. I sure hope this story will have a happy ending for her and the children's sake.
