Renee Pernice: Remembering You

Two years ago on New Year's Day 2009, Renee Pernice vanished, leaving behind her home in Kansas City, MO, her husband and three children.  Two years ago her husband, Shon Pernice, says she just walked out of the house on foot and he couldn't "remember" where she said she was going.  Renee has not been seen nor heard from since.

Following this case for the last two years has been a series of twists and turns, watching Shon Pernice sidestepping with inconsistencies in his original story, never participating in searches for his wife, and being arrested on several charges, finally for the murder of Renee.  He will go to trial in 2011.

The pattern of conduct of Renee Pernice leading up to the day she vanished could be like so many other women trying to leave a marriage.  Renee held a good job with a salary enough to support herself and her children, in fact, Renee alone cared for her children while her husband was stationed overseas.  During the investigation divorce papers were discovered in Renee's home office, leading us to believe she was serious about leaving her marriage this time.

Renee Pernice was close to her family, was in constant contact, and, as is often heard in cases of missing mothers, "she would NEVER leave her children."  Most of the statements from Shon Pernice are in direct contrast with the woman and mother her family knew her to be.  Perhaps Renee confided in her family or close friends about the upcoming divorce, or the problems in her marriage leading her to make the decision to finalize it.

Maybe Shon Pernice has a history of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, being one of the last to see another missing mother, Star Boomer who vanished in 1999.  It would be a great service to the family of Star Boomer if information on her whereabouts would come forth during the investigation of Renee's murder.  Although there were a reported 13 witnesses, no one is talking.  As always, someone knows where the remains of these two mothers are today.

Hindsight is always valuable, and one of the reasons many blog about cases like this is to learn and use the information to educate others in the hope that another mother may be spared.  Had Renee Pernice, or Susan Powell, or Stacy Peterson taken precautionary measures while preparing to leave their marriages, this blog would not have been written.  A revolutionary new procedure has been introduced by Susan Murphy Milano in her latest book, "Time's Up: A Guide on How to Leave an Abusive and Stalking Relationship" called the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit.  This simple procedure is likened to a living will, spelling out in notarized, witnessed documents and video testimony the evidence of what went wrong in the relationship and, if abuse is present, it's documented as well.  Procedures utilized by Murphy Milano over the last 20 years have led to a perfect track record in keep women alive during the traumatic end to their relationships.

Writing about missing mothers has given me an insight, as well as working closely with advocates and organizations surrounding the issues of intimate partner violence and missing persons.  In many cases, there is a clear pattern of conduct in the actions of those involved, a relationship with violence, or at the least an "ownership" attitude, that if you leave me, no one else will have you and my children.  It's a pattern that is seen over and over, and the results, unfortunately, are usually the same.

While remembering Renee on the second anniversary of her missing, I also urge readers to remember her children.  They are now in the care of Renee's father, Rick Pretz, and although trying to give them the best childhood they deserve, it can't be easy.  Children left behind with no answers, children left to deal with the trauma, children who were unconditionally loved by their mother, have daily reminders that their lives have changed dramatically.  They have needs expressed in ways that we sometimes don't understand, and will be forever branded in their psyches.  They are the innocent bystanders in the chaos surrounding them that makes no sense to them.  Never will they have the opportunity to know what could have been.

Shon Pernice: Right Where We Want Him

Shon Pernice is finally behind bars, charged with the murder of his wife and mother of his children, Renee Perince, whose body has yet to be found.  Renee went missing in the dead of the night a year and a half ago, leaving behind two small children which she adored.  Shon has always claimed that she just left, but, as those who look into these cases of missing mothers know, that scenario is highly unlikely.

The fact that Renee has been murdered is one that her family has come to terms with, however, there has been no resolution for them because of the fact that she has not been found.  Many cases are successfully prosecuted without a body based on the evidence surrounding the investigation.  Just as in another high profile case, the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, we can hold out hope to their families that justice will be served.

But, is that enough?  Is justice served for them if they still don't know where her body is?  No, it's not, and we can only believe that someday these murdering fathers will grow a conscience and lead the family to their missing loved one in order for them to have some finality, some peace of mind.
"I'm very happy that we've gotten to this point," Renee's mother Linda Lockwood said. "Hopefully we'll get justice for Renee because that's what we've always wanted."
Another family eagerly watching the proceedings surrounding Shon Pernice's arrest is the family of Star Boomer.  Boomer went missing after an altercation in a bar in 1999 and one of the last persons to see her there was none other than Shon Pernice.  Star Boomer was recently in the news when a barrel with a female body was found in Kansas City and hopes were up that it was Star.  It was not.

Like his counterpart, Drew Peterson, who is also in jail charged with murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, Shon will most likely not be forthcoming with information anytime soon.  As in most cases such as this, they "lawyer up" and start the long, tedious process of a trial, costing us all millions,  but worse, re-victimizing a family who must live through it in a glass bowl.  As this progresses they will be the ones in the courtroom every day listening to any and all testimony, and being forced to relive the pain.

The other side of the story, and a side that isn't addressed often, is the fact that there are children now growing up without either parent.  While I'm sure they are well taken care of by loving grandparents, they still have so much to deal with as they grow up.  To experience the questions surrounding the loss of their mothers, and now the incarceration of their fathers, is not a normal part of childhood, and not something any child should have to be put through.  There are no support groups and associations available to take care of their upcoming needs, other than years of expensive therapy, unaffordable by most.

In the days ahead, we will be watching and waiting, along with these families, for the day their nightmares end.  But, keep in mind, those nightmares will only end when their loved one is found and properly put to rest.

Tip Leads To New Search For Renee Pernice

Kansas City Mother Missing Since Early January

POSTED: 4:36 pm CDT September 24, 2009
UPDATED: 4:55 pm CDT September 24, 2009

A new tip sent Kansas City police on another search Thursday for missing Northland mother Renee Pernice.

Pernice hasn't been seen since Jan. 1.Investigators believe Pernice is dead. Her estranged husband, Shon Pernice, is believed to be the last person to have seen her, police said."We think this is going to get a resolution," said Rick Pretz, Renee Pernice's father.Pretz said he and the rest of Renee's family are convinced she has been killed.Shon Pernice, who was a firefighter in Independence, has been charged in unrelated crimes, but not in connection with his wife's disappearance.

Pretz said he's pleased that police haven't forgotten about his daughter."It's nice to know that the public is giving tips and that the police are out there looking," Pretz told KMBC's Peggy Breit.Renee Pernice's parents have posted a $25,000 reward for information in the case."Finding Renee is worth $25,000 to the first person with a tip good enough that enables us to find her," Pretz said.Investigators did not disclose where Thursday's search took place.

Shon Pernice: Slow Burn

Kansas City Star Reports:

“I will kill them,” authorities quote Pernice as saying. “I am now prepared to protect myself.”

Moments later, authorities said, one of Pernice’s sons is heard saying, “Dad, you are too mad. … Let me talk. Put the knife down.”

Pernice says: “I am prepared to protect myself. The blades are going to start going. It is bad.” ............(from 911 call)

Who would say this? Someone who isn't afraid to hurt, maim or kill, even in front of his own children. This is part of the 911 call to authorities made by Shon Pernice, "person of interest" in his wife Renee's vanishing. Arrested again, it seems Shon is on a slow burn and feeling the squeeze!

"Shon Pernice now faces two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of witness tampering in the July 4 case. He was taken into custody Thursday at his home. "
The 911 recordings show that Pernice was “highly intoxicated and completely out of control,” court records say.   (from Kansas City Star)

Time is still ticking away and Renee Pernice is still missing. Her family has filed with the court to gain custody of her two sons and get them into a safer, more stable environment. These children may very well have witnessed or at the least have knowledge of what has become of their mother. For them to continue to be in the custody of a "person of interest" baffles me and has shades of Drew Peterson all over it. Just as in that case, what will become of these children?

Whether these two fathers are found guilty or not, they should be doing everything in their power to shield the kids from the negative attention they are bound to be getting. There should be something in place that will protect the fragile psyches of children in these circumstances and intense therapy ordered to guide them through. Yes, I know, he is innocent until proven guilty, however, the children are innocent bystanders to the possible crimes of their fathers.

Hopefully the next time I see a news report about Shon Pernice, he will have squeezed out the truth and Renee will have been found. In the meantime, I can only hope that Renee's children will somehow find their way.

And while the authorities have him in custody, don't forget to ask him about STAR BOOMER, another woman that was in Shon's company and has never been seen again.

Shon Pernice, Looking for a Life Partner!

It's been recently reported that Shon Pernice put up a profile with the online dating service "Plentyoffish" listing himself as "divorced" and looking for a "life partner." He mentions his children, born to his missing wife, Renee Pernice. Is he trying to find a mother for his children or a companion for himself with his wife vanishing just a mere 8 weeks ago?  Of course, he has since deleted his membership, but obviously he's announcing that he is available!

Since local Kansas City prosecutors have declared that Renee is dead and her case is now being investigated as a homicide, wouldn't Shon garner a little more of a potential partner's sympathy if he listed himself as a widower instead of divorced? Even Drew Peterson is able to find love by playing that game.

Shon Pernice is being looked at closely in his wife's death, and also the disappearance of Star Boomer, a woman who vanished from a bar ten years ago after being beaten, drugged and dragged out by, some say,  Shon Pernice. Of course, nothing has been proven, Mr. Pernice has not been charged, arrested, nor convicted.

But now we see that Shon most certainly is following the pattern of other high profile missing mother cases, Scott and Drew Peterson, who both were actively having relationships with other women before their wives were found. None of these three, and many others, have ever taken one minute of their day to search for their lost wives, the mothers of their children. They have all turned the corner on that chapter of their lives and found that there are women out there willing to be with them.

But what about the children? What about the family members who are living in a state of panicking limbo? Renee Pernice's father has pleaded several times for any clues that would solve the question of his daughter's disappearance. Like many of us, he is outraged and disgusted by the latest news of Shon Pernice looking for love!

"I think any concept of Shon being on a single's Web site, and particularly announcing himself as being divorced, is just disgusting and appalling," said Rick Pretz, Renee's father.

Like the Petersons above, Shon Pernice's behavior is puzzling to most. How can a man just erase the memory of a missing wife and mother? These three, as well as many others, seem to have absolutely no conscience and have blocked out anything to do with their wives, however, what about the children? By all accounts, the four children of Drew Peterson were quite close to missing wife, Stacy Peterson, two of them the children of dead mother, Kathleen Savio. It's also been reported that the children of Renee Pernice were "her life" and she took her role of motherhood quite seriously.

What kind of propaganda are these fathers feeding the children? Drew Peterson and Shon Pernice have both limited and controlled the children's visits with family members of their missing wives. From the outside, it looks like they keep a pretty tight rein on the children's activities and who they are in contact with. How can these children deal with the questions they must have and what kind of permanent emotional damage will they have to deal with in the future? How can they be expected to live their lives without the touch and the voice of their mothers?
Shon Pernice and Drew Peterson most likely have silenced those voices and have made up something plausible and believable to their young children, but there are those who are able to recognize certain signs and behaviors from these types of men. There are some who have actually survived leaving a relationship with these types of men and will tell you they are lucky to be alive.

Renee Pernice only has the voice of outrage from her family and the public. We can only hope that law enforcement will be able to find Renee, connect the dots, and find the evidence that will show who caused her vanishing and solve the mystery for the sake of her children. They deserve to live on with the truth.

Please be part of the effort to keep Renee's story in the forefront until she is found. If you have any information about the mysterious truck seen in the vicinity, please come forward. If there is any information at all you might have concerning Renee please call Crimestoppers at 816-474-TIPS.

Star Boomer, Who Is She, and Where Is She?

It's been reported that Shon Pernice of Kansas City, MO. is not only being questioned about his role in the disappearance of his wife, Renee Pernice, but now he is linked to another missing mother, Star Boomer. Star Boomer has been missing since 1999, 10 years, and she left behind a son and a family that deserve some real, truthful answers.

According to recent reports, Star Boomer was last seen during an altercation in a local bar. By all accounts there were 13 witnesses who saw Star literally beaten to unconsciousness. That's where the story of Star Boomer ends. No one is talking about what happened afterwards. Not one of 13 witnesses has told authorities where to find Star Boomer after 10 long years, and now it's stated that Shon Pernice was one of the last persons to see her alive.

Who is Star Boomer? In light of all the recent attention given to missing women, missing mothers, and the men suspected of knowledge, we often forget the main characters of these mysteries, the one who no longer has a voice to say to the world, "here I am!". The media tends to look closer at the ones who are possibly involved in these women's vanishings, scrutinizing their every move, and, in some cases (Peterson), surrounding the case in a circus atmosphere. But who are these Vanished Mothers?

Ten years ago, Star Gail Hurtie Boomer was a mother of a young son, Cody. Being the mother of a young son is not an easy task, and I would imagine that she took time off to unwind at a local bar.

Sources say that Star did not drink that much while at the bar, but went to the aide of another woman who was being physically beaten by another patron. Star was the only one to step up to help the woman, and later she was hit her off her own bar stool by a friend of the patron as he walked by and said something to her. She was knocked unconscious and dragged out of the bar. It's at this point, witness have said, Shon Pernice injected her with something and Star was never seen again.

Star Boomer came to the aide of another woman and paid the ultimate price for it.

There is a young man who does not know what has happened to his mother, and has only local rumors and stories to fill in the blanks. I have to believe that Cody wants answers, and he deserves the truth, along with other family members who love her and miss her in their lives.
"Until the day we find closure and justice for her, I can't give up and I have to be a voice for Star," said Cynthia Hurtie.

"I believe we will find her. I really believe that. I've never given up hope," said Hazel Hurtie.
I hope that during the investigation into the now declared death investigation of Renee Pernice, that her husband Shon will at the very least be questioned about the last night in the life of Star Boomer, and help her family find resolution.

I am pleased to include some personal insight about Star from a source close to the family:

Ten years ago, Star never thought to herself that this photo, would be used to help bring her home.
She had no way of knowing.. she wouldn't be going home..ever again, that the bright spot of her world..her son, would be left behind. She would never see him open his Christmas gifts, watch him play ball.. she wouldn't be there for her father..before he passed away, or to hug her Mother when he did. The chance to finish school.. Gone. No more shopping trips with her nieces, or getting her hair done in the new style. All Gone.
Gone by two men who ruthlessly removed the future of this young woman. The witnesses, who keep her family 'suffering' by their deafening 'silence'. There has been no justice, no one has been punished. There is no resting place to visit to acknowledge Star existed..no place to run to when the their tears fall, no place to put the flowers she so loved.. in her remembrance .
She was instead taken, and hidden.. in a place where no one visits. There are no flowers. No family ever comes...
She dreamed of one day living on a farm and watching her son enjoy the warmth of a day, tending her beautiful garden..and caring for a variety of animals. Most importantly to watch her son grow to be a man.
Star was a florist at heart, who loved flower arranging, she created beautiful arrangements and wreaths and had
won awards for her creations at local craft shows. She had nearly completed her GED and had plans to further her education. She was a warm hearted soul, that would offer her hand to others, and make it a point to bring a smile, even when times were troubled.
A true optimist is hard to find, and the loss her family has endured is inconsolable.
Cindy recounted to me when Star bought corrective shoe's for Cindy's daughter. A wonderful sister, and Loving Aunt to Cindy's children. She is remembered by the twinkle in her eye, I thought to myself while the family spoke of her.. that her name was rightly 'given' at birth "Star"
Her bright smile has been handed to her son Cody, who shares her warmth, kindness and love, and his laugh is a thought of Star brought home..and brings back those 'wonderful memories'. Star would be so very 'proud' of the young man she brought into this world. So, grateful for her family who have all come together in the nurturing of her son. She would be "so" very grateful to her Mother who has kept her in prayer 'everyday'. Hazel has waited on bended knee, for the day her daughter would come home. Her fervent prayers have been answered and faith will bring closure..soon. Cindy who has taken up the torch to find her sister, is a timid loving soul. Having been lost for a time herself... has found her strength and has become a 'star' herself. In Star's legacy Cindy will assist families of the lost, and help them to find the closure that she yearns for in her own life.
The pub that Star was in the evening she was taken. The twelve that sat by, watched. Those that were witnesses and have kept quiet 'all these years'. The burden lays with them. For a family to experience a death of a loved one, is an excruciating experience. To have that loved one plucked from life and out of reach for all 'time' is beyond horrific. To those who know and will not speak. I would like you to imagine the face of a small boy.. who sits on the edge of his bed.. and waits. His eyes looking up to 'you' for the answer. Where is my Mom? For her Mother who sits with folded hands at her kitchen table, still waiting. She smiles and it is apparent 'where' Star got her shine. To Cindy, Star has given you the greatest gift. Your direction..your path.
Please help give "Star" a gift. A place to rest..a place to be remembered. If you have information, no matter how small.. it will be kept confidential. Please visit http://helpfindthelost.blogspot.com/ and bring star home.

Renee Pernice, Not The Only One Missing?

There have been questions asked about Shon Pernice in connection with another missing woman, Star Boomer. It seems Shon was present at the same bar, the same night Star Boomer went missing. Coincidence?

For the family of Star Boomer who have been searching for her all these years, I pray that there are answers. I hope that this is a very active investigation into the whereabouts of Renee Pernice and Star Boomer!

Fox News reported the following story:

Monday, February 02, 2009
While the case of a missing mother from Missouri remains a mystery to law enforcement, but a possible link to another woman's disappearance may be emerging.

Renee Pernice vanished from her Northland home last month. Shon Pernice, her husband, whom she was in the process of divorcing, was the last person to see her alive.
Ten years ago, another woman, Star Boomer, disappeared from a bar in Kansas City and hasn't been seen since. On that night in February of 1999, Shon Pernice was at the same bar, sources told FOX4KC.com.

Witnesses said Boomer got into a fight with a man at the bar. Two men were originally charged with second-degree murder, but the case was eventually dropped to avoid "double jeopardy."

Boomer’s family believes it was because none of the witnesses at the bar that night would testify.

"There were 13 witnesses in the bar and no one wants to come forward or say anything," Cynthia Hurtie, Star’s sister, told FOX4KC.com.

Hurtie, now a private investigator, has never stopped trying to solve her sister’s case. When she heard about the specifics of Renee’s case she said, “My heart just fell to my stomach. I just put two and two together, there were two witnesses and Shon was one of them.”

Although Shon Pernice was never on the list of official court witnesses, he has been linked to the Boomer investigation, according to FOX4KC.com sources.

“Until the day we find closure and justice for her, I can’t give up. I have to be a voice for Star,” said Hurtie.

Boomer’s mother, Hazel Hurtie, holds out hope that her daughter will be found.
"I believe that we will find her," she told FOX4KC.com. "I really believe that. I have never given up hope."

Shon Pernice and his attorney could not be reached for comment about the story.
There is a $5,000 reward for information in the Star Boomer case.

Renee Pernice, Clues

Even though news reports have slowed down the past few days, Renee Pernice is still missing, and her children, as far as what I can find, are still in the care of their father, Shon Pernice, the last person to see Renee alive on January 2. He has given inconsistent statements to police regarding exactly when he last saw her and the circumstances.

Clues according to search warrants made public:

  • Shon Pernice used an electronic key card to enter the rear door of a hazmat station where cleaning solvents are stored. This took place at 4:30am, January 3.
  • Detectives saw Shon Pernice drive away from the home with Renee's dog, go to a park, drop off the dog and drive away. This took place on January 6. (Detectives picked up the dog)
  • Police have collected blood evidence, and discovered a reddish stain on the ceiling and a spot on the garage floor that tested positive as human blood.
  • Police recovered latex gloves from coat and pants pockets which had various stains on them.
  • Paperwork for divorce proceedings was found in Renee Pernice's home office.

Renee's family has done everything right, keeping her name in the public arena, candlelight vigil, press conferences as well as cooperating with the ongoing investigation, all the while riding the roller coaster of emotions packed into the information they are required to process. They have yet to see their grandchildren since their mother vanished.

Renee and Shon have two children together and are said to be staying with their dad. Shon also has a daughter from a previous marriage.

They haven't seen their grandparents since Renee went missing.

"As you can imagine, we've lost our loved one and we can't reach out to her and we'd dearly love to see those boys," said Pretz.
According to comments found on some online discussion boards, Shon Pernice is not a stranger to the grisly ugliness of violent death and, according to some, had a strange fascination with it. Apparently he is living by the words spoken in another case with the same initials, S.P., "Deny, deny, deny".

All we, the public, can do at this point is help Renee's family keep her picture and information out there to keep the story alive until such a time as she is found. Pray for her children and family members that the time will be soon and the wheels of justice can start to turn.

Renee Pernice, Still Missing

Shon Pernice!  You have a lot of questions to answer!  Your wife and the mother of your children has been missing over 15 days now!  Why are you not out looking for her?  Why are you not willingly talking to police?

The case of missing mother, Renee Pernice, is ringing the same bells as the case of another man by the same S.P. intials!  I believe in the premise of "innocent until proven guilty", however, Shon Pernice's absence from searches and questioning is raising a lot of eyebrows.

A fellow blogger, years ago, commented during the Laci Peterson case on the handbook that Scott Peterson, Mark Hacking, Michael Peterson and several others at the time have followed.  She affectionately called it "Spousal Murrrrder Theater"!

From "Observations of a Misfit":

November 18, 2006

I Love You to Death - Reprise

Sam and Marilyn Sheppard
Jeffrey and Colette MacDonald
Eric and Pegye Bechler
Michael and Jennifer Blagg
Michael and Kathleen Peterson
Bruce and Jana Koklich
Greg and Kristin deVillers
Scott and Laci Peterson
Mark and Lori Hacking

What do these couples have in common?
  • Proclaimed by friends and family to be doting lovebirds.
  • Affluent, professional, well educated and living in nice neighborhoods.
  • Statistically very low chances for victimization by strange assailants.
  • The victims were found dead under suspicious circumstances, murdered, or vanished without a trace.
  • Most of the victims were pregnant at the time of their murder.
  • The accused or suspected spouse was guilty of major deception, chronic infidelity or was carrying on an extramarital relationship at the time of their spouse’s “disappearance” or murder.
  • All of the accused staged dramatic scenarios (staged domestic homicides, per FBI parlance) to deflect suspicion.
  • None of the couples had a history of abuse or domestic violence. The Bechlers and the Koklichs ran businesses together. Most were first marriages where the couple met in college.
  • In most cases, there were severe financial problems that were not disclosed until after an investigation of the crimes, and large life insurance policies on the missing or murdered spouse.
  • What were previously close family relationships among in-laws and siblings were irreparably divided by the incidents. The family of the victim tirelessly pursued justice and actively assisted the prosecution.
The Scorecard:
Sheppard – conviction was overturned, accused passed away rather young.
MacDonald – convicted of multiple murders; was eligible for a parole hearing in 1991, still working on an appeal based on DNA evidence, but don’t expect to see him strolling on the beach anytime soon.
Bechler – convicted (without the body of his wife ever being found) - currently serving a life sentence.
Blagg - convicted of murdering his wife, but has not been charged or tried for his daughter's murder.
Michael Peterson – convicted and sentenced to life without parole.
Bruce Koklich – convicted of second degree murder (with no body found), sentenced to 15 years to life.
Kristin Rossum – sentenced to life.
Scott Peterson - convicted of double murder and condemned to death.
Mark Hacking - pled guilty and is serving an inexact amount of time.
Oh yeah, they loved them to death!

Shon Pernice!  Check the scoreboard!

Although it's stated that none of the above cases had a history of domestic violence, I would further clarify and say that there were probably no reports made to authorities, but I would bet the house that there were underlying tensions in these couples' relationships.

According to reports, the family of Renee Pernice are close to certain that she has met with foul play, and they seem to be accepting the inevitable on the grounds that she would never leave her children behind and leave her home willingly.  They are unfaltering in that statement.  They want her home, they want questions answered, and they want justice.  They, as well as four children,  deserve that much.

Renee Pernice

Renee Pernice, 35, and a mother of 3 children has been missing from her Kansas City home since Friday, January 2. The last person to see her was her husband, Shon Pernice, who reports that she left the house that morning on foot, but he "can't remember" where she said she was going. Their children were not at home at the time, spending the night with neighbors. Her cell phone has been found approximately 15 miles from the home.

It is reported that the couple had previous problems in their marriage, Renee had filed for divorce in 2005 but withdrew her petition. Shon Pernice, a firefighter, was a veteran from the Iraqi war and was getting ready to deploy once again to Iraq. He immediately hired a lawyer and has not been charged or named as a person of interest in Renee's disappearance.

The area that she would frequent has been the target of searches using ground personnel, canine and horses. So far nothing has been found, but all signals are pointing to foul play being involved.
Pernice's mother, Linda Lockwood, spoke to FOX 4 News and said she fears the worst. Through tears, she said, "It's been too long for her to not have contacted any of us, so we feel like something bad has happened. She would never, never, never leave her kids and just not say anything to anybody. There's no way."
Renee is a teaching nurse at a local hospital and by all accounts it is totally out of character for her to leave her home, leave her children, and walk away from her life. She is close to her family members and keeps in close contact with them, so for her not to call after this long is quite suspicious.

What do we have going on here? Without pointing fingers, could it be another military man gone mad? There seems to be a correlation lately with serving in the military and murdering spouses. What should be done to help our returning vets assimilate back into their lives, their homes and their marriages so that more children are left without a mother?

Or do we have another possible "Drew Peterson" statement that she ran away to be with another man?
Baldwin(Shon Pernice's lawyer) said Pernice feels helpless.

“He misses her; he wants her back even if she chooses not to be with him; she needs to be there for the kids,” he said.

What we do know from all reports is that Renee Pernice most likely did not just walk out of her home last Friday. She had way too much going on in her life with a successful career and 3 young children who friends say were her life.

As the days go on, the chances of finding Renee alive are very slim, her family and friends are aware of that. What about 3 young children without a mother? Who should be held accountable for their loss?

If indeed this is another case of spousal murder, we have another abuser who has followed the pattern.
