Bridget Lee Pendell

Being a child of the 60's I can relate to the fascination with travelling the country and being a groupie. The Grateful Dead were just starting out in the Haight Ashbury area of San Fransico back then. Hanging out with the likes of Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and many others who made that area famous as a hippie haven. I even had big plans in 1969 to travel there with some friends, but that didn't happen for me.

Fast forward and the "Dead" are still travelling around and doing concerts, even though Jerry Garcia is no longer with us. They have attracted another generation of followers, a band of gypsy homeless that live for the day. Drugs are, and always have been, a big part of that scene along with the camaraderie of a pseudo family.

This is the world that Bridget Pendell entered back in the early 90's. She happened upon a bad crowd and began using drugs, giving up her aspirations of modeling and nursing. She was also married and had a daughter, little Sasha.

Her drug addiction led to prostitution in the San Fransico area and that is where she was last seen. Bridget was regular about phoning her family, but since April of 1997 they have heard nothing from her.

Bridget's story is sad beyond belief and I urge you to go to the links at the bottom and read the details of what has been written. Her sister, Jackie Horne, searched and searched for her along with several others over the years, until her early death in 2006 at the age of 29.

Bridget leaves behind her daughter, who is now 16 and a family who loves her. They have never given up hope that she is alive somewhere and have worked with several law enforcement agencies, websites, and detectives.

When trying to find the homeless it leads you to people and places that are a shame to our senses. Every one of them has a story, some do not want to be found, ashamed to go back to their families.

Bridget's street nickname is "Butterfly". As butterflies have an ethereal quality, that is how I imagine Bridget, beautiful, with an air of innocence, living in an ugly world.

Roxanne Paltauf, Monday4 the Missing

An 18 year old, Roxanne was staying at a Budget motel with her boyfriend on July 7, 2006, they had an argument, she walked out and has never been seen again. According to Louis Walls, who was 30 at the time, he went back to the motel room to cool off, and later went out to look for her to no avail. The motel was in a rather run down area of Austin, Texas frequented by prostitutes and drug dealers, not an area for a young lady to feel safe. Roxanne is said to have left that motel room with nothing, no cell phone, no purse, no money, only in a pair of shorts, tank top and flip flops.

The area is one where protests were held to take back the neighborhood and make it safe. At the rally was Roxanne's mother, Liz Harris, doing everything to get her daughter's information out to the people in the area. A billboard company donated their services so that Roxanne's picture is out in the public at all times in hopes of someone coming forward with information.

What the public doesn't realize is the lengths a family has to go to gain exposure for a missing loved one. At 18, Roxanne is an adult and there is no law against just walking away from your family, but many times that's not the case and authorities don't always listen to the pleas of the family who know differently. The area from where she disappeard was searched extensively a few days after she was reported missing, but no evidence of Roxanne was found.

Roxanne has three sisters and a brother who she was close to and they miss her greatly. It's highly unusual that she would be gone for so long without contact with her family. The family has so many questions that have gone unanswered since July 7, 2006 and pray that someone will come forward with information.

January 3 was Roxanne's birthday. The family will celebrate yet another birthday without the guest of honor present. But Roxanne is always present in the hopes and dreams of her family until the day she returns to them.

Kelly Currin Morris

As if scripted from a handbook, another mother vanishes in North Carolina and her husband is declared by law enforcment a "person of interest." Following in the same pattern as those before, Scott Morris has not participated in searches for his wife, has not given a straight story, and according to local gossip has threatened Kelly Currin Morris in the past.

Kelly Currin Morris has been missing since September 3 from her home in Stem, NC, a small, rural town near the Raleigh/Durham area. Authorities may not have known she was missing, but on the morning of September 4 the home she shared with her husband, Scott, and two young daughters was on fire. It has been stated that it was the result of arson.

Kelly's mother, Wanda Hollis, holds on to hope for her daughter as she participates in searches. She stated in an interview with MSNBC those words we have heard over and over:

"Kelly would not leave her girls; she would not leave her girls," Hollis said. Morris has two daughters who are staying with family as authorities are searching for their mother.

Kelly is described by local friends as being an "awsome" mother who was dedicated to her daughters. She participated in all of their activities, and was an all around great mom to her girls, one from a previous relationship.

Just like the others, Kelly's car was found nearby, she has no purse, money, keys or cell phone in her posession, they were all left behind. Scott Morris told authorities that she went to look for her dog, and never returned, an unlikely story.


Borrowing a phrase from another blogger, Kelly Morris's vanishing is another chapter written in the "Handbook of Spousal Murder". I hope this isn't the case, just as in all the other cases, but the script is sounding so very familiar.

Take a look at other North Carolina cases where mothers have vanished, like Nancy Cooper and Janet Arbaroa. The signs and evidence are there, there have been no arrests, the husbands have carried on with life, and these women are still missing. There are too many children out there that have to deal with this heartbreak

How can we write a chapter for them, if we can't bring their mothers home?

Monday4 the Missing, Bruce Falconer Missing since 1981

Bruce Falconer was a Marine from the time he was 16 years old, joining with his mother's approval. In 1981 he had just been promoted to sergeant and was home on leave in Bismark, South Dakota before leaving for Yuma, Arizona, catching up with old friends, including Tim Jewell.


The two of them went out the night of February 20, and hit a few bars, later going to a spot along the Missouri River known as the "Desert" in Bruce's Blazer. The evening did not turn out as Bruce and Tim had planned. What happened still remains a mystery which investigators have worked on for a long 27 years.

Bruce's mother, Dorothy, has said that after a long time with no results of searches, she made up her mind to not become a bitter, grieving woman for the sake of her remaining family. The Marines had Bruce declared dead five years after his disappearance.

In December, 1992 a hunter found skeletal remains in the "Desert" and investigators felt sure they were either Bruce Falconer or Tim Jewell. After dental records were checked it was determined that they were, in fact, the remains of Tim Jewell, and medical examiners determined that Tim had died of exposure.

Although much time had passed, Dorothy sobbed at Tim Jewell's funeral, still not able to rest in her own heart knowing that her son, Bruce, has still not been found. Investigators state that all possibilities are still being checked to this day, it is still an open investigation, and that they will not give up.

This must give Dorothy at least a small bit of comfort to know that there are those who will not forget her son, Bruce Falconer.

Bethanie Doughtery

From the pictures and entries on her family guest book you can almost feel the vibrancy of Bethanie Doughtery. Bethanie, also known as "Buffy", was reported missing from her home in Killowog, NY on the evening of April 2, 2008 because she had not been seen by anyone in her family all that day, nor had she reported for work at the XMart at her scheduled early morning shift.

Bethanie usually was up around 3am to prepare for that early morning shift at the XMart, 25 miles away from her home. Customers and co-workers alike were said to have enjoyed knowing her and it was not like her to just not show up for work. Later it was discovered that two of Bethanie's neighbors had separately made 9-1-1 calls reporting a woman screaming, police responded but did not find anything amiss in the area.

After she was reported missing, police returned to the home to find that her car was in the driveway, everything she owned was still in her house, including her clothes and all personal belongings. It is reported that their was no sign of a struggle in or around the house.

The last person to see her was her 18 year old son who lived with her in the home full time. He says that it was around 10pm when he last saw his mother, in her purple pajamas, inside the house. Several searches have been performed my members of the close knit community and Bethanies numerous friends and family members, but nothing has been produced as to the whereabouts of Bethanie. Police are still investigating a sighting of a truck seen in the area that may or may not be connected to the case.

Along with Bethanie's 18 year old son are two younger siblings, 15 and 14, a house full of teenagers from a previous marriage. Bethanie and her estranged husband of eight years, Bill Dougherty were separated since January and had several arguments over the home they shared on Jennings Creek, the same home Bethanie was living in when she vanished. It is also reported that since the separation Bethanie had gone on dates with a few other men, but nothing in the way of a serious relationship.

Her mother describes her as a person who loved everybody and everything, a wonderful person and a mother who loved and doted on her three children. It's said that Bethanie was outgoing, compassionate and yet stubborn, a woman who would guard her principles and children.

Three teenage children left wondering what happened to their mother early in the morning of April 2, are missing the guidance and teachings of a mother ready to spring her children from the nest. These children are left behind to search for answers with a void left in their young lives that will never be filled until their mother is returned to them.

The investigation continues, the searches go on, the leads are being followed, the family is keeping a candle burning for Bethanie.

On Monday, August 25, the family of Bethanie Doughery will be sponsoring a stop on the Cue Center Road To Remember Tour in Marathon, NY at the Three Bear Hotel and Inn located at 3 Broome Street at 10:30am. Carol Batten Dowless

Whiteville, North Carolina is a small rural town situated west of Wilmington on Hwy 74 in Columbus County and not far from the border of South Carolina. It is surrounded by small communities most likely named for family farms such as Wyatts Crossroads, Wooten's Crossroads, Smith Crossroads, and many others. It's in this area that the Batten family owns horse pastures and where Carol "Prissy" Batten Dowless' vehicle was found in the early morning on September 4, 2005.



It is reported that Carol, known as Prissy, had gone missing a couple other times in the past, but she was located before reports to police would be filed. Prissy and her husband Jamie Dowless had 4 children, the oldest, Prissy's from a previous relationship and the youngest just 3 months old when her mother vanished.

There were the usual arguments in the marriage, but no domestic violence reports were ever made, and Jamie moved near his parents with all 4 children after Prissy went missing. Carol's father, Roger Batten, a long haul trucker, is still very involved with his grandchildren, and has stated that is one of the reasons he gets upset. Explanations to young children are difficult when there are no answers.

There have been several conflicting reports of the events on September 4, 2005, and according to the detective, the case has virtually hit a brick wall. They desperately need new clues to continue to move forward in the investigation.

Four young children wait and wonder, and will for a very long time, for answers to questions no one can answer. The mystery continues, did Prissy just walk away from her children and family that early morning? Her father talked to her that morning around 1am on the same cell phone that was found later broken in pieces. Did someone pick her up and leave with her? her husband reported hearing a vehicle leave their home around 5am.

If Prissy is out there somewhere, her family just wants to know that she is alright.

The family of Carol Batten Dowless will be honoring her and bringing attention to her case on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 by sponsoring a stop on the Cue Center Road To Remember Tour. Missing Persons billboard generates tips to find Dowless

There has been a major break in the murder case of a Columbus County woman. The Columbus County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged a man with first-degree murder is in the case of Carol Batten Dowless. The man in custody is the victim's husband, Jamie Lee Dowless. The charges follow Monday's positive identification of her remains. The remains were found within weeks of putting up a billboard with her picture. The positive identification of Carol Batten Dowless' remains brings little closure to her friends and family. “When I go to bed tonight, my mama's not coming back. When I wake up in the morning she's not going to be there,” said Denise Batten, Carol’s daughter. While they now know it was in fact her body found in a wooded area in Chadbourn, questions still remains. Carol’s father, Roger Batten said, “I want to know why and everything that brought this on. I don't want to have no secret having to wonder how it happened or nothing like that.” A billboard unveiled September 10th, played a key part in generating tips as to where her body might be. “That was a real big help. We waited three years and within twenty days of the bill board going up we knew,” said Mr. Batten. Within just 16 days of its unveiling, the Columbus County Sheriff's Office found Dowless' remains about a quarter mile from her family home. That two weeks cracked a three year, missing persons case. The Cue Center for Missing Persons raised more a thousand dollars for the billboard. “Billboards kind-of replace that effort where you’re constantly putting out posters. It is a great effort, but after weather and time, they get taken down. A billboard sort of replaces that because it’s in your face and it’s life-sized,” said Monica Caison of the Cue Center. The billboard is being credited by Columbus County detectives with helping lead to a suspect in this three-year-old case. Columbus County coroner said he can not determine the exact cause of Carol Dowless' death, but that foul play had been definitely involved.

Dowless pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter in wife's death

Feb. 28, 2011

WHITEVILLE, N.C. – A Columbus County man pleaded guilty to the 2005 death of his wife. Jamey Dowless was arrested in 2008 and charged with killing his wife, Carol Batten-Dowless.

Carol Batten-Dowless was murdered in Sept. 2005. Her Remains were found three years later. In 2008, a tip led Columbus County Sheriff's deputies to a wooded area outside of Whiteville where they found her remains.

The remains were found just down the street from her father's home. Authorities say Batten-Dowless was strangled to death after a fight with her husband.

Jamey Dowless was arrested in Oct. 2008 about three weeks after his wife's remains were found. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the case last week. He will serve between 94 and 122 months in prison. 

However, the 34-year-old has 860-day credit for time served since his arrest reducing the minimum time down to 65 months. 

Carol, who was nicknamed "Prissy", left behind four girls.

As a footnote to this entry, Amber was able to reach her $4000 goal by organizing her fundraisers. A search was performed Saturday, August 9. Rachel is still missing and Amber needs our encouragement and support.


One Henry County Daughter’s Effort to Find Missing Mother
Press Release

On Thursday, March 13, 2008, thirteen-year-old Amber Simmons awoke to a day that would change her life forever. Her mother, Rachel Conger, was missing and Amber has since been doing everything that she can to help find her mother. On April 13, Amber organized a candlelight vigil at the Henry County Court House to honor and pray for her mother to be found. Since the first month of her mother’s disappearance, Amber has since turned her attention to raising money to bring in professional search organizations to help find her mother, Rachel Conger.

Her daughter, Amber, is the driving force behind each event to help find her mother whom she dearly misses. She had this to say to the community; ''I really want my mom found; she means the world to me. What 13 year old would not want their mom found? I am appreciative for what everyone has done to support us & help search for my mom. I ask for your continued support to help bring her home.''

On June 27, Amber organized a car wash at Advanced Auto Parts that raised $500. When faced with needing to reach an initial goal of $4000.00, Amber got to work organizing two more fundraisers. On July 12, the “Bring Rachel Home” bake sale was held at E.W. James & Sons, and raised $834.00 and on July 26; the “Bring Rachel Home” yard sale raised $550.00. In the planning stages is a benefit concert, which is set to be held on August 23rd, at Casey Jones Village/Old Country Store Amphitheater in Jackson, TN (more details about performers and the time that concert starts will be available in the next several days).

All proceeds from the fundraisers will help cover the immediately needed travel expenses for their upcoming Search & Rescue set for Aug 9th. United Response Search & Rescue Organization has offered the family their assistance with Law Enforcement in search efforts for missing Rachel Conger. They are a Texas based Non-Profit Search & Rescue Organization who aid in searches for missing children & adults nationwide. Their search is set for August 4-10th, with a volunteer community search on August 9th. It will take the community's continued support to help them reach their $4,000 urgently needed goal for ongoing search and rescue efforts.


They are asking for volunteer searchers from the public on Saturday, August 9th. Please spread the word, as we need about 250- 300 volunteers to help aid us in our efforts. Jeri Lynn Duvall

Missing since 1990, Jeri Duvall's family is still searching for anything that will put her to rest and bring closure for them. There have been no traces, no clues to her whereabouts and the day she disappeared, Jeri and Robert Duvall were to close on the sale of their house.

Bob Duvall did not report Jeri missing for 4 days, and then only at the insistance of Jeri's mother.


Jeri and Bob often had violent arguments with threats of bodily harm and at one time threats to burn down the house. This is the memory of little girls, Heather and her sister Lisa, of the time before their mother disappeared while she and her sister were in Michigan visiting their grandparents. She remembers that when an argument ensued between her parents, Jeri would hide her purse. Months after she vanished, Heather found her mother's purse hidden in the pocket of a snowsuit.

All of these memories are located in Shorewood, Illinois, where the Duvall family lived in 1990. Located in Will County, it is the same area where Stacy Peterson and Lisa Stebic vanished under similar circumstances. Bob Duvall was not a stranger to law enforcement in the area and Shorewood police will not give up investigating the case where Bob is the only suspect.

Bob Duvall moved on with his life, moved to Florida and daughter, Lisa, stayed with him. Heather went to live with her grandparents at the age of 16 and is now a married mother herself. "I have a 4-year-old daughter and have a baby on the way," she said, her voice breaking. "She wasn't there for my wedding. That's the hardest part. I can't pick up the phone and call her and ask for advice."

Jeri's family grieves for her, but on the other hand, will never give up hope that she will be found. They are steadfast in their search for their daughter, sister, and mother. She comes to many of them in vivid dreams, spends time with them, and when they awake she is gone again.

Faye Aline Self, Her Daughter's Words

Missing since 1983 and having two notorious serial killers, Henry Lee Lucas and Robert Charles Brown, both confess to having murdered her, you would think this case would be screaming in the headlines. That is not the case. This daughter has been on a 25 year quest to find the answers, the REAL answers. Over the years authorities have given her hope to resolving her mother's disappearance only to have that hope dashed and replaced by another theory and confession. Back to square one, and the emotional roller coaster that always accompanies a child looking for her mother.

Did you know he was the apartment maintenance man to the complex where my mom disappeared & where Ms. Hudson was murdered? The most vicious murder that community has ever seen and Browne WASN"T Even Questioned...that still angers me.

It is devastating from a child's point of view sure, but as I have grown older, I needed her here with me. When I got married, when I held my first newborn and looked down into those beautiful blue eyes and thought, "God. Mom I wish you could see this angel.' But, I guess she saw him before I did. When I was up all night with a sick child, scared and unsure... motherly advise would have been great...when I got a promotion at work...the sorrow and grief doesn't end one day. It is something we will carry with us forever. It molds us into the women we become.

I have told my children about her, their grandmother, my son replied, "Man, Momma, I wish I could have known her." Me too boy.

My mom was one of the funniest people I have ever known. Naturally funny, she didn't have to try. And, she never ever was violent, not so much as a spanking. So, for her to meet her demise the way she did is terribly ironic.

Alice Donovan, Her Daughters' Words

It has been many years since there has been any public information about the disappearance of Alice Donovan, although her family, especially her two lovely daughters, still have the ultimate unanswered question...Where is she?

Even though the two murderers have been convicted and sit on death row, they refuse to be specific and tell this family where they so callously left her. What kind of evil can perpetuate something as uncaring as these two individuals?

And yes almost six years later we are still waiting to bring her home. Just thinking about it brings the tears to my eyes.

Sigh..Where is she? All we want is to bring her home and give her a proper resting place. She doesn't deserve to out in the middle of the woods on the side of some road. As I write this post the tears fall. So many years of the not knowing just tares you up inside.

There have been moments over the past six years that I have longed to have my mother there, by my side. For support, compassion, laughs, love, a shoulder to cry on. A mothers love. I crave it, I miss it so badly.. I miss my mom, Alice..

Will she ever be found? I hope so..

This post as it turns out is really not a discussion it's more of my feelings. I'm sorry I got carried away with my emotions..It's something I have been needing to do know for a long time. I have surpressed my feelings about my mom for so long that they are just begging to be released.

I can't change what has happened to me, my family, or my mom. I can only help others in my situation and hope that I have something to give them. Even if it is only awareness and compassion for how they feel. Because I do know what it feels like to have your world turned upside down in just a blink of an eye....

In two days it will be Lisa's birthday. It also marks the day that she disappeared in 2003, five long years ago, from Philadelphia, PA after an argument with her long term boyfriend, Tyrone Henderson. It won't be much of a celebration for her grieveing mother,Alonie Walton, and Lisa's two children.

Lisa was a veteran who served in the military and protected our country, but where were the ones who are sworn to protect and serve on our streets when Lisa went missing? Like so many other missing persons cases, there was not much done in the critical hours in the beginning, not even questioning Tyrone and searching the house they shared. To this day, the house has not been searched and Tyrone has moved on.

Alonie Walton and Lisa's family, like so many others, have had to make phone calls, write letters, make demands that someone look closer into this case. Many times there are no return calls and just more disappointment. The family has reached out to the internet to get this case back in the news.

It's her birthday!

Kristen Anderson

Wheeling, WV sits on the Ohio River and is a city that is rich in history. The people who live their are strong, determined people who worked in coal mines, steel mills, and glass factories. A sister across the river is Martins Ferry, Ohio and the people of both areas will not give up hope that one day a young mother will be found.

Kristen Anderson's life was taken from her at the age of 24 by a controlling, abusive, violent husband, James. Kristen had moved out of their home and in with a friend to escape the years of abuse. It was here that a violent argument ensued and when her friend came downstairs to soothe a crying child, Kristen was nowhere to be found, although her glasses, purse, and cell phone were left behind.

Oct. 1, 2006 was the last time Kristen was seen, on surveillance video, her lifeless body being carried out of James' apartment and put into the trunk of his car. Where he took her from there, no one knows.

He was brazen enough to tell a friend that his wife's body would never be found and yet cowardly enough to take his own life when he found out about the incriminating video, never telling anyone where the mother of his children could be found. It is an awful and gruesome story and he took it to his grave.

Kristen's mother, Mary Dailey, knew something was wrong that morning and tried to file a missing person's report but was told she had to wait 24 hours before investigators would take the report. She turned to a local news station for help, but still had to wait the 24 hours before police would step in to help.

In the midst of all of this horror were two little boys, Michael and Eric. They reportedly witnessed years of abuse their mother suffered at the hands of James Anderson, including the night she died. It has been reported that they witnessed their mother sitting on the couch that morning, but she wouldn't talk to them and little Michael told his grandmother later that Mommy felt very cold when he touched her.

Kristen's brother, Ed, saw a large barrel next to his sister's home that was gone shortly after she vanished and wonders if James put Kristen inside the barrel and sent it into the Ohio River.

There are several areas of speculation concerning where Kristen's body may be, but so far she has not been located, leaving behind two young sons who are now being raised by their grandmother, along with three other grandchildren. At the memorial service the two youngsters cried in grief when they saw pictures of their mother and clung to their remaining family members.

These two young boys, along with the rest of Kristen's family and friends are all victims of domestic violence. Although the memorial service was meant for closure to those who loved her, there can never be closure until she is found and brought home to the family that loves her.

Lucely "Lilly" Aramburo, Ignored or Coverup?

The mounting frustration in any missing persons case is significant. There is so much to do and emotions are raw. The family and friends who work tirelessly, day and night, cling to any little bit of information no matter how negligible it may seem to anyone else. Every bit of uncovered evidence is scrutinized and analyzed with hope for the clue to bring that person home.

Lilly's case is not that much different other than the fact that she has become real to me through the efforts of her friend. Just when you think you have made a breakthrough, something is there to knock you back again. This is what she has been going through for over a year in her search for Lilly. She found solace in the fact that many of us on the internet were willing to do some behind the scenes work for her, emailing, calling, and setting up connections.

Then, once again, the brick wall. Miami Dade detectives have stifled her efforts every time. She has turned in tips, passed on information, all the right things. They choose to react at their own convenience. Many clues and much evidence which could bring a solution to this case has either been destroyed, covered up or ignored.

There is a piece of property in Miami that could hold answers. The owners have given permission to search the property, she has enlisted Search and Rescue teams, but Miami police will not give their needed approval to carry out these searches. They say they want to conduct their own. That is all well and good, but when are they going to get around to it, after even more evidence is destroyed?

There has been a plethora of clues uncovered in this case and they point to the unthinkable. Something happened the night of June 1, 2007 and there are those who know the answers. Lilly Aramburo did not walk out into the night at 2am in her pajamas to pick flowers.

Lilly possibly never left the home of Christen Pacheco that night on her own, but that home is now vacant and up for sale and has never been searched for forensic evidence. She could have been transported away from there to another place, but the vehicle in question was destroyed under strange circumstances.

What connections does Christen Pacheco have that keep him from being formally questioned in Lilly's disappearance? Thousands have joined in this effort to bring this case to the forefront, but MDPD, elected officials, and even the media have not responded properly.

If you would like to make a difference today, please write to the Governor, the Mayor of Miami, the US Attorney, and any and all media outlets you can google. Let's start making a noise that will be heard until Lilly comes home. Her son, Palden, deserves to know that his mother loves him and did not leave him voluntarily.

Lisa Stebic

Lisa has been missing from her home in Plainfield, Illinois since April 30, 2007. There are suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance and the details can be found on several sites listed at the bottom of this post.

Lisa and Craig Stebic are the parents of 2 children, Zach and Lexie, who for some time before April 30 lived in a home where tensions were high. Lisa and Craig had filed for divorce,lived in the same home with the children, although essentially living separate lives.

Lisa is reported, by her best friends and family members, to be a loving mother who adjusted her life according to the needs of her children, taking a job at the school cafeteria so she could be involved with them after their school day. She was looking forward to starting a new life, but, Craig Stebic was still verbally abusive. On the day she went missing Lisa signed and mailed a petition for him to be temporarily evicted from their home so that he could no longer damage the mental health of the family.

Craig Stebic has been put on notice as a person of interest in Lisa's disappearance, but, no arrest has been made. For over a year Zach and Lexie have been living with their father under this cloud and since October Craig Stebic has put an end to all communication with Lisa's family, grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins of Zach and Lexie.

Lisa's family refuses to give up. They keep the momentum going in the search for answers that they, and Lisa's children, richly deserve. As grandparents they have had to file a petition in the courts to see their grandchildren. Grandparents have no rights given to them by the system, they have to fight for the right to visit the children of a daughter they love so much.

What affect does this isolation from family have on these kids? Children of divorce are more likely to have problems in life, but what about children of divorce where the mother has vanished?

It will take a strong support system to help these children develop into stable adults. When part of that support system is kept from them, what can we expect for them? They undoubtedly are missing their mother and her presence in their lives, then to be kept from interacting with those who also love them must be devastating to their young psyches. They must have so many questions and so few answers.

Please keep Zach and Lexie Stebic in your thoughts and prayers along with Lisa and her family that one day she will be found and justice will be served.

A low-key anniversary of Lisa Stebic's disappearance

The small-scale gesture comes four years after Stebic’s April 30, 2007 disappearance from her home on Red Star Drive. This is the first year since her disappearance that Stebic’s  family hasn’t organized a public vigil or ceremony in her honor.

With no news from law enforcement or suspects, friends and family have reigned in some of their search efforts. Most have abandoned the idea that she’ll turn up alive.

“We don’t have lingering hopes that she will be spotted at a Wal-Mart or something,” said Stebic’s cousin, Melanie Greenberg, who has served as a spokeswoman for the family since the disappearance. “We know that she’s dead, that she’s a victim of foul play.”

Details remain unclear about what happened the evening she disappeared. Stebic, who would be 41, often worked out in the evenings at Plainfield North High School. Craig Stebic, her estranged husband, has said he was working in the backyard while their then-10-and-12 year old children went to nearby store for candy.

The couple was in the middle of a divorce, and Lisa had obtained papers that day to evict Craig from the home, Greenberg said on Thursday from her Naperville home.

“Lisa is not going to be erased because we will carry on her memory and continue to make noise about it,” Greenberg said.

Heart Breaks for the Missing

Missing persons has lately become my obsession,especially missing mothers, for the simple fact that the children who are left to search for them will never have the void filled until all the questions are answered. How can they possibly feel whole and complete when the woman who gave them life is taken away from them?

This is a new venture for me and it is mostly satisfying, but quite frustrating when the day of looking under rocks is done and not a clue can be found.

I had to take this avocation into another direction and spread the word a little differently than just exposing myself to one case, one family. It is too easy to attach myself and my emotions to that person and it drains the life out of me, even though that is uncomparable to anything the family is going through.

I spread myself around a little more when delving into the information about these cases. I feel too much, if that can be possible. When I am researching articles I go through such a kaleidescope of emotions that I am immersed in that person and all the family members.

Why would I bring such sadness and anger into my psyche voluntarily? Because every page of the book has a new story to tell. Many of these stories will never be heard, thus many of these people have been erased from the planet unwillingly.

Who plays God and decides which missing person is deemed worthy of mention in the press, worthy of thorough investigation, worthy of sending out search parties? The anger I feel when I see a willingly neglected missing person case is beyond words.

So, each day I come back to the computer, read my blogs and forums, and search for the next missing person case. The odds are not in my favor for ever finding closure for these families, but if I can bring one minute of comfort or encouragement or hope to them, then I am satisfied.

Peggy Dianovsky

Peggy Dianovsky is the mother of three beautiful sons, Andrew, Bobby, and John, who were still quite young in 1982 and living in Schaumberg, Illinois. They lived the rest of their childhood without a mother in a home with a man who later would go on trial for her murder.
It is stated that the boys were not allowed to talk about Peggy after she was gone, the unspoken rule from Robert Dianovsky, their father. Robert married another Peggy who also had 3 boys, so it was a blended family with no trace of the original Peggy Dianovsky. The boys say when they asked about their mother Robert would reply that he couldn't remember, and that as they were growing up they didn't even know when her birthday was. She was erased from their lives.
At age 31 Andrew was a middle school teacher, and apparently started remembering things from the night of September 12, 1982. After intense therapy he was able to recall a violent fight that night, seeing his father holding a butcher knife to his mother's throat. This was a mere 24 hours before Peggy Dianovsky would disappear for good.
Very close to finalizing a settlement on their divorce, the boys recalled a few louder than normal fights between the couple, who had their share of them over the course of the marriage. The last one being the worst, the loudest and most violent.
Robert Dianovsky reported Peggy missing 5 days after the night of the last fight. Reported her missing, but, as Robert states, leaving voluntarily, taking a few clothes, and leaving behind her 3 boys, her car, and her last paycheck.
Where did all their memories go? Hidden in the minds of three little boys was a mother who made a ritual of tucking them in and kissing them every night. But that night they were told she was too tired. What other lies were they fed in that home over the course of 20 years?
Finally, Robert Dianovsky was arrested for Peggy's murder after his 3 sons urged authorities to reopen the case, feeling safe that they could now share their most secret memories. There was no body and no other physical evidence, a circumstantial case.
Robert received an aquittal in a 2004 bench trial, the judge ruling that she was probably murdered, but there was insufficient evidence to prove that Robert did it. Although Peggy has never been found, foul play is suspected in her disappearance.
How can a man live with himself, his sons, and a new family after completely obliterating the mother of his children?
I guess some do get away with murder, don't they?

Toni Ann Bachman

Toni Ann Bachman is a missing mother who has done so much for other mothers and mothers-to-be all across the internet. She started a website called Toni's Angel Pages. It is a pregnancy support page for those women who find it hard to conceive. After five miscarriages she was finally pregnant, but the child who was only conceived 22 weeks prior, Michael George, died in her arms. It is devastating for any mother to read her words which are still on that website. It has been kept as a memorial to her through the years and there is a poignant message from her step-son, how he felt about her kindness and love.

White Bear Lake Township, Minnesota is the place Toni lived with her husband, Norman and his three sons, and her home is the last place she was seen, April 25, 1997. There must have been stresses in the marriage in 1997 as Toni had asked Norman for a divorce and it is reported he was not happy with that news. Toni was reported missing by her mother on May 12, 1997.

According to her husband she left a note saying she was leaving with another man and he says that she called him the next day. There has been no note found and phone records indicate no phone call was made. Norman Bachman was questioned about his wife's habits and when she was last seen. His answers were contradictory and one month after Toni disappeared, officers searched their home. Blood and tissue found in the freezer were determined to belong to Toni Bachman and investigators report that there were patterns indicating someone wiping up the spatters.

Foul play is obviously suspected, but no charges have ever been brought forth. Norman starting dating shortly after Toni vanished and even asked out one of her online friends from the pregnancy support group.

Norman Bachman has had several arrests on charges such as domestic and sexual assault, one incident witnessed by one of his small sons. He was sued for wrongful death by Toni's family although he has never been arrested in connection with her vanishing.

It is distressful that a woman who so wanted to bring life into this world, has been taken out of it in such a tragic way. Toni Ann Bachman's remains have not been found and she is still considered missing.

Stacy Ann Peterson

So much has already been written about Stacy Peterson. I am not going to try to debate any issues about her or her disappearance. I will only attempt to honor her through her role as a mother.

Stacy was a very young mother to 2 adopted boys, Kristopher and Thomas Peterson. Their own mother, Kathleen Savio had been found dead in her bathtub, and Stacy adopted the two boys when she married their father, Drew Peterson.

Stacy and Drew went on to have 2 more children, Anthony and Lacy. In pictures you can see the love oozing from Stacy for all of these children and you get the feeling that she took her role as mother seriously.

Stacy had so much to deal with at such a young age. Years earlier her own mother, Christie Cales, went missing and to this date has never been found. Stacy then took on the role of protector of her younger brother and sister. She suffered another loss when an older sister, Tina, died of cancer. Much has been speculated about her mental state at the time of her disappearance, but also much has been stated about the fact that she would never leave these children and abandon her role as mother.

What are these children dealing with? The two older boys have now lost 2 mothers. They must feel abandoned and hurt by this, despite what has been said. The 2 younger children probably just had a chance to learn about how important a mother's love can be. All of these children have to be suffering and that alone would pull at the heartstrings of any mother.

Although it is said that Drew Peterson has taken on the role of "Mr. Mom", how can that replace a mother's love. It never can, it is not possible. A mother's heart knows when her child is hurting or happy like no other, it is a strange intuition we are blessed, or cursed, with at the birth of our children. I would speculate that if Stacy Peterson has run off somewhere, the tug on her heart would have brought her back to her children by now. They love her and miss her and need her, and she knows that, whether she is still in this world or not.

Alice Donovan

Gallivants Ferry, SC is just an old, small, rural southern town. Spanish moss drips from the live oaks just as you would imagine. This is the place Alice Donovan and her family moved to from New England to build their dream home and live out the rest of their dreams.

According to family members, Alice didn't always have a dreamy life. She was mistreated during childhood, left home at 16 and married a man who abused her for 17 years. She and her 2 daughters, Angie and Jennifer, finally made the split and she was able to start living her life with no fear.

Alice met the man of her dreams and in 1997 they moved to South Carolina. Within the next few years her daughters and their families joined them so that they could all interact as a family should. They were all very close.

November 14, 2002 Alice went to the local Wal-Mart in Conway, not far from their home. The security tape shows Alice being car-jacked and kidnapped from their parking lot. Alice made a phone call to her daughter, explaining that she was okay. Later it was told that she sounded stressed and that she was not able to talk freely. That was the last word from her.

I personally remember following this in the news, wondering when she would turn up. This case haunted the local news for quite some time. They found that Alice's credit cards had been used around Little River and again in Raleigh, NC. Still, there was hope that she would be found alive somewhere.

Her car was found in Goshen, IN, days later, abandoned by the two scumbags (I will not give their names anymore ink) who took her away, assaulted and murdered her. Two escapees from a KY prison who were on a crime spree that spread over two weeks and several states.

Time went on, searches took place, the two murderers were captured, tried, and sentenced to death row. Alice's remains have never been found. The murderers refuse to tell what they did with her.

We know the fate that Alice suffered. She deserved so much better than that, but now, after all these years her daughters and family members still don't know where she is.

How can human beings be so full of evil that they would continue to taunt their victims? Why? They have no secrets any longer, they will die on death row, why won't they tell us where she is? It seems so simple, and just the right thing to do.

My heart goes out to Angie and Jennifer and Alice's family who have to live this every day.

Rebecca Pauline Gary

Becky Gary was a young, single mother working as a waitress to support herself and her daughter. At the time of her disappearance she had allegedly been having an affair with then Governor of Louisiana, Edwin Edwards. Her plan that December was to break off the affair.

December of 1988 doesn't seem like such a long time ago for most of us, but for Jamie Williams it must feel like eternity, or just yesterday. She was a young girl when her mother, Becky Gary, put her on a bus to spend Christmas holidays with other family members in Shreveport, Louisiana. I would imagine to a little girl it seemed a harsh thing to do, and she reportedly argued with her mother about it at the bus station. Little did Jamie know at the time that it would be the last words she spoke to her mother.

According to Becky Gary's apartment manager, her lights and coffee pot were on, bath water was in her tub, and her purse, car, keys and all her clothes were left behind. Her suitcase was on her bed as if she were packing to leave. There were no signs of struggle. Rebecca Pauline Gary has never been seen or heard of since that night of December 27, 1988.

Where did she go on such short notice, taking nothing with her? Was she so afraid of something that she just ran out of her home never to look back? Where is the manilla envelope she carried always and hid under her bed? That envelope could be holding the keys to solving this mystery, for Becky told her family that if anything should happen to her they should open the envelope.

The manilla envelope is missing as well as Rebecca Gary. Both vanished at the same time. Jamie Williams has gone ahead with her life, but constantly sees her mother, constantly searches for her, constantly questions what could have happened.

Where are the clues? Someone knows and has the answer for Jamie, the young daughter left behind.
